A country-style ham with bone is cooked with apple & onion in the crock pot, in a mixture of apple cider, brown sugar, maple syrup & apple pie spice.

Ingredients

  • 1 (4 pound) bone-in country-style ham
  • 3 cups apple cider or juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon apple pie spice
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

Method

Score ham through fat layer on all sides in a cris-cross pattern. Place in a 6-quart crock-pot. In a large bowl combine remaining ingredients and pour over ham. Cook on low heat setting for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. To serve remove ham from crock pot to a platter, ladle off any excess fat drippings from top of cooking liquid, and serve ham with remaining sauce.

Notes: This ham is all but effortless to make, but is sinfully delicious. I've been making it for Easter, Christmas and family get-togethers for years. The leftovers are fabulous for sandwiches and salads.

Number of Servings: 10-12
