Crock Pot BBQ Ribs

Beef short ribs are cooked long and slow in a tangy bar-be-cue sauce that contains vinegar, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce and chili powder.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 to 4 1/4 lbs boneless beef short ribs
  • 1/4 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 large white onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 3/4 cup cider or red wine vinegar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder

Method

In a large resealable bag, combine flour, salt and pepper. Add ribs in batches and shake to coat. In a large skillet, brown ribs in butter. Transfer to a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker. In same skillet, combine remaining ingredients. Cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil, then pour over ribs. The slow cooker will be full. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 9-10 hours or until meat is tender.

Notes: Butter or margarine works well with this recipe. Crock pot will be extremely full at the beginning. You can use ribs with bone for this recipe as well. I have and the meat falls completely off the bone.

Number of servings: 10-12
